1. Definition of the postulate
The postulate “Overcoming mindset” answers the question: what does the personality do with the oscillations that arise?
If the first postulate fixes the necessity of taking in heterogeneity, and the second describes the amplitude of existential experiences (AEE) as the system's reaction to inner complexity, then the third determines the outcome of this dynamic.
The overcoming mindset is neither merely a character trait nor an innate quality, but an acquired and consolidated orientation of consciousness that grows into intentionality. It is an existential stance toward the weight of existence in which a person chooses not to eliminate tension, but to endure it. Initially it may form as a set of stable character traits, but later it becomes an all-encompassing orientation of consciousness — intentionality — a way of being in relation to complexity, crisis and inner contradiction.
It appears in the ability:
- not to eliminate oscillations at any cost
- not to flee from crisis
- not to disintegrate under the load of contradictions
- not to compensate for complexity through excessive simplification
In this model, overcoming appears in the ability not to discharge tension at any cost, not to flee from crisis, not to disintegrate under the load of contradictions and not to compensate for complexity through excessive simplification; it is a way of living AEE as a process, not as a catastrophe. 1
2. Ontological layer: tension as a condition of growth
Inner complexity creates load on the system. Heterogeneity disturbs homeostasis, and amplitude increases. Yet taking in difference by itself is not development; it only creates tension. Development begins where this tension is endured and then assimilated. For example, tension generates the desire to discharge discomfort through regression, aggression or adaptation to ideology, but precisely the blocking of these regressive paths and the endurance of tension force the psyche to create new structures. 54
Freedom produces anxiety: fear of change pushes toward projections, hyperpolarization and the creation of dogmas that turn flexibility into a prison; refusal of freedom lowers anxiety, but deprives one of the possibility of growth. 6 The overcoming mindset accepts anxiety as an inevitable companion of freedom and, following the principle “live dangerously”, chooses growth over comfort. 6
Old maps become tyranny; resilience is born not from control, but from the ability to endure uncertainty, respect otherness and remain an eternal beginner. Existential discipline means living without final maps, enduring unpredictability and striving toward diversity without fearing strangeness. 7
Global tension repeats the same dynamics: historical periods filled with wars and catastrophes evoke mass regression, aggression or escape into illusions. Yet the tension of civilization testifies to the birth of a new world; a rational position presupposes abstaining from immediate gratification, responsibility for actions and movement into the unknown on the basis of reason. 5 The call to adventure directs one toward the hero's path: to hear the inner voice and step away from the beaten path is to obey the Yukon Law. 8
3. Dynamic mechanism: endurance and avoidance
If the overcoming mindset has been formed, the person:
- holds the amplitude of experiences
- preserves contact with reality
- allows uncertainty
In this case, amplitude becomes a source of complexity and the formation of stable identity.
If the capacity to endure is insufficient, the system does not remain passive — it adapts. An alternative branch appears: avoidance.
Avoidance in this model is understood not as a defect, but as a protective mechanism for preserving integrity. When oscillations become subjectively unbearable, the system reduces them not through processing, but through reducing the intake of heterogeneity.
This may appear:
- in narrowing the circle of experience
- in rigid beliefs
- in intellectualization and rationalization
- in isolation
- in the construction of existential barriers
If the capacity to endure is insufficient, the system seeks to lower tension. 56 At the same time it is important to emphasize that avoidance is not a defect, but a protective mechanism for preserving integrity; it protects against disintegration. 4
4. Logical transition
If the overcoming mindset is present, AEE becomes a resource for growth. If it is absent, oscillations are reduced through avoidance, and the system stabilizes by limiting heterogeneity.
This leads to the practical question: how can one accompany a person at the point of choice between endurance and the reduction of complexity?
The answer unfolds at the level of therapeutic work and applications of the model.
